With the election two weeks away, there are still eight toss-up states–or is it seven now? Is Florida still in play? What about New Hampshire? Rasmussen says the battleground states are Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Iowa. They’re giving Florida and North Carolina to Romney and saying Massachusetts and Washington voters have already decided on Obama. Democrats might as well stay home on Election Day in Indiana as can Republicans in New Jersey (are there any except Chris Christie?).
I think that being a “toss-up state” means the folks there like getting a lot of visits from candidates. And they must adore seeing political ads on TV. I heard Cleveland’s favorite program had to be renamed “CSI: Campaign 2012” just so it could compete with the ads. Out here in California, we apparently like neither visits nor ads. The candidates only show up for fundraising. And in Obama’s case, that recently meant explaining to the Hollywood elite why he sent his body double to the first debate with instructions to “Act Presidential, dude.” Apparently the message got garbled and the double thought he said, “Act professorial, dude.” Then at the second debate, the real Barack decided to show up and cleaned Mitt’s timepiece by not acting Presidential at all. There’s a moral in there somewhere.
Gallup has Romney up 52% to 45% among likely voters. They say Obama is down sharply among men, college grads, and Southern voters compared to 2008. But it’s still a toss-up among women, who have yet to decide if what’s between their legs takes precedence over the country having a financial leg to stand on.
Attention, Ladies: The last time I checked, birth control pills cost about $9-12 per month if you don’t have insurance that covers them. A 12-pack of condoms is typically $10-14. Abortion would still be widely available even if Roe vs. Wade were overturned, as the decision would be up to individual states. Can you really picture the People’s Republic of California banning abortion? Gov. Jerry Brown and almost the entire State Leftistlature would go berzerko before they’d let that happen. To say nothing of Gloria Allred, who would already be filing a class action suit before the ink was dry on the statute. Then the State Supremes would toss out the case and grant the plaintiffs $200 bazillion for their emotional anguish.
I wish I were in a toss-up state and could show up to see Joe Biden speak. Or misspeak (this is old Joe we’re talking about). The other day he told a Nevada audience that the Republicans have bullets aimed at them. Nice that the rhetoric has been turned down a notch from when Joe alleged the Republicans will put us all back in chains.
There’s no excitement in being out here in one of the non-battleground states. California is solidly blue on the Real Clear Politics map and will remain so. The Democratic mayor of Los Angeles has declared that Romney wants to make life such a living Hell for illegals that self-deportation will seem like a return to Paradise! Maybe the Republicans also have bullets aimed at the 800,000 young Dreamers longing for work permits. This could get ugly.
For now, I’ll have to be content in my non-toss-up state and wish all the Nevadans and Ohioans a pleasant day of watching the attack ads. But please, make up your minds soon if you can. Otherwise, one suspects you just like all the attention and that’s not very grown-up, is it?

Haha. As an Oregonian, I feel your pain. We are blue and I hate it. Here is how a typical election return goes. The results slowly come in and the republicans are in solid control of everything. Then, wouldn’t you know it, the counties where Portland and Eugene are located finally send in their results. That is when the Republicans, who until this point have been in the lead, are kicked to the curb. Sorry, 98% of the state of Oregon, the “intellectuals” in Portland and Eugene have spoken for you.
