I rarely go through a day without hearing comments like “People are oblivious to what is going on in our government” and “People just don’t care about the issues”, and I must say that I agree with those comments, but I also believe there is great benefit in spreading the truth of our situation to a naive electorate. You see, I have been an educator for 25 years, and I have been teaching mathematics most of those years (which I’d argue is one of the toughest subjects to teach well), and I’ve learned something valuable in my career that translates directly to our current political climate: time on task matters.
There is a reason more people know the name of the winner of American Idol than the name of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and that is because the majority of people spend much more of their time watching programming and consuming news about American Idol than they do about our government. The ones reading this article now who claim the opposite is true are die-hard political junkies or perhaps have awakened from their slumber and are ready to tackle the ever-growing tyranny of progressive-government. Those who know the name of our Speaker of the House and do not know the name of the winner of American Idol are probably those who are already ‘on-task’ doing the work that was established for the citizens of this country by our Founding Fathers.. which includes understanding how our government operates and choosing leaders to adhere to the limits of our Constitution and protect our liberties.
The only way this country will ever have a substantive shift in the way it is governed, is if those who are are on-task doing the work of responsible citizens begin to educate others who are oblivious to what is happening.. turning more naive bystanders into on-task citizens. As those who had previously tuned out the affairs of government begin to take notice, many will begin reading, listening and watching to learn more of the truth. That is when the work of conservative warriors is most important. People are bombarded daily with biased and misleading ‘news’ about our government; those who’ve uncovered the truth have a duty to point it out to others. Time-on-task matters .. those seeking the truth about our government need to hear from us regularly.
Here are some things you can do to become an on-task citizen and help turn more of your friends and neighbors into on-task citizens.
- Read the U.S. Constitution – It’s amazing how few people in America have actually taken the time to read through the entire U.S. Constitution; but, the document is actually not that long and it is the foundation upon which this nation was built.
- Read Good Books – There are thousands of books available on governing, economics, and history that give good insight into our troubles today and solutions for our problems.
- Watch/Read a variety of News – Never rely on any single news source. All sources have some inherent bias, so you need to be aware of what is being said on both ends of the political spectrum and examine data/evidence critically to figure out what is happening.
- Share your ideas with others – You can blog, write a book, network on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and dozens of other social networking sights. Not only can you educate others, but you will also learn a lot as you network with others who are sharing the truth.
Whatever you decide to do, never give up. This election season is just one small battle in one very long war to return this country to Constitutional governance. It will take a lot of time and patience to educate a disinterested public about what is at stake in this country. Every time a naive bystander is transformed into an on-task citizen, a victory has been won. Celebrate those victories as you carry on in the fight.Follow @conservativesue
