I’ve had an interesting exchange with one of my liberal followers the past couple of days on Twitter that highlights what I see as an ongoing fight to define the Tea Party by the left. Essentially, his comments suggested that the Tea Party was racist (where have we heard that before?). I, of course, set the record straight, but I am not sure those who oppose the Tea Party particularly care about the lack of truth in their claims of racism.. it isn’t about educating themselves about the actual Tea Party, as opposed to the one which has been fabricated by the mainstream media and those who hold a liberal viewpoint; it is only about stealing the narrative from conservatives to steer the conversation away from the message of the Tea Party …with which the vast majority of Americans agree: Our government is too big, spends too much money, and has taken away too many of our liberties.
This tactic of painting Tea Party conservatives as racists by the left is taken directly out of Saul Alinksky’s book ‘Rules for Radicals‘:
- Rule 11: If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.
- Rule 13: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.
And, because liberals have the mainstream media parroting their talking points, there exists a rather substantial portion of our population that has bought into the lie that the Tea Party movement is motivated by racism. We fight back, but often with limited results, as they continue on with this relentless assault on the character of those who associate themselves with the Tea Party. Sadly, I do not see that opponents of limited government will relent in this character assassination, because it is really the only weapon left in their arsenal to stop the advancement of the conservative message. The policies of the left have utterly failed us, as evidenced in Carter’s and now Obama’s abysmal performance as president; so instead of defending their liberal ideology, they simply change the subject to a topic that tends to silence the opponent.
So what should we do in response to these attacks?
Do not give bullets to those who are firing at you.
If you do stumble across some idiot who claims they support conservative principles, and they are making statements that can be taken and used as evidence by the left that the Tea Party movement is a bunch of bigots, call them out. I must say I have seen relatively little of this on Twitter and none at the many Tea Party and other conservative gatherings I have attended, but it doesn’t take many of these idiots to spoil the image of the whole batch. If we don’t weed out the riff-raff amongst us, we are just giving the enemy more ammunition to fire back at us.. thus diverting the message from the real issues: debt, deficits, jobs and the economy. Liberals love to scour the crowds at Tea Party events in search of an offensive sign to use in their battle to smear the movement. I’ve never seen any offensive signs in person, but the fact they ever existed means someone in our movement was not doing their job in calling out bad behavior
Without exception, speak the truth with authority.
Never let the claim that we are ‘racist‘ go unchallenged. Liberals will never stop repeating this lie, so we must never stop refuting the claim.
Joseph Goebbels – “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
The truth is, we aren’t racists. The truth is, the longer the battle goes on in America to restore Constitutionally conservative government, the more Americans are hearing our message. They’ve seen the destruction of liberal policies in this country; Americans are seeking answers, and we must be ready to provide those answers.
Even though the assault on our character may be disheartening, I think it is a sure sign of desperation on the part of liberals when they continue with the attacks. We have the truth on our side; never forget that.
