In case you haven’t yet heard the news, in a tragic accident Sunday night in South Texas, a pickup truck loaded with an astounding 23 people veered off the road and crashed, killing at least 13 of the passengers—some them children.
In the wake of this horrible event, America needs to ask, ‘Is now a good time to outlaw pickup trucks?’ Surely, this tragedy could have been prevented had this group not had legal access to a pickup truck. Therefore, the pickup truck must be to blame. For the good of the nation, we must pass pickup truck laws to prevent such a tragedy in the future.
Ridiculous? Of course it is. No one would seriously show such a lack of taste by asking a ridiculous question like that in the wake of such a heartbreaking event. Yet, that’s exactly what the left does every time there is a tragedy they believe they can exploit to their advantage.
Barack Obama’s close friend and former Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, now the mayor of Chicago, revealed the left’s sinister strategy so often used when he told a conference of business leaders in 2009, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. . . . Things that we had postponed for too long, that were long-term, are now immediate and must be dealt with. This crisis provides the opportunity for us to do things that you could not do before.”
In January, 2011, the left shamelessly seized upon the horrible tragedy in Tucson, AZ that left Congresswoman Gabby Giffords fighting for her life, and a number of others dead. Not only did Democrats use the shooting to push their anti-2nd Amendment agenda, they also attempted to blame Sarah Palin, conservative talk radio, and even the Tea Party for inciting the incident. The fact that the shooter was a registered Independent who harbored a general anti-government sentiment was irrelevant to the left. They also didn’t care that the killer was mentally ill, and not motivated in any way by conservative politics. The Democrats and their media propaganda wing saw a serious crisis, and wasn’t about to let it go to waste.
Last week, following the horrible Aurora, CO theater massacre, the ever-predictable left fell right back into their pernicious pattern as the liberal, mainstream media instantly looked for a conservative connection. ABC News’ Brian Ross irresponsibly found a Tea Party member with the same name as the shooter, and quickly went on the air to make that connection–never checking his facts. Clearly, he was foaming at the mouth to blame the event on the peaceful Tea Party movement, and nothing–not even the facts–was going to stop him. Traditional media has been desperate for years to find something violent to pin on the Tea Party crowd, without success. Ross must surely have envisioned glory coming his way as he ‘broke’ the news.
As his journalistic blunder was exposed, Ross became news himself. Fox and Friends Co-host Gretchen Carlson correctly observed, “I think it’s actually bigger than just making a mistake,” suggesting that there was bias at work in the ABC Newsroom that led them to run with that report. Co-host Dana Perino added ”…instead of double checking, which is—a first-year journalism student knows you should double-check that beforehand. I think it was a real shame.” “If I were ABC, I would be embarrassed.” She went on to say that “being first is not as important as being right.”
Then again, when has ‘getting it right’ ever been the goal of the left? Pushing their agenda is always the objective, and I’ve never known them to let facts get in the way of a good story. The honorable Mayor Emanuel must be proud.
